Workout Wednesday - Have You Had a Rest Day?

On any normal Wednesday, you would be finding a (hopefully) rather challenging workout posted here.  But I'm wondering, have you taken a rest day lately?


Those of us who push ourselves relentlessly sometimes overlook the importance of taking a break.  When you are on a normal schedule, and even worse, thinking you need to get your money's worth from a gym, we often fail to just sit back, relax and let those tired bodies rest.


Most of the coaches around me will tell you that letting your body recover is just as important as maintaining strength.  So what does that mean?


If you are one of those restless types, relax, it doesn't mean you have to completely sit still to rest.  Try some 'active rest' meaning, go for a walk or hike, take a bike ride, go to the driving range, take a relaxing (not hot) yoga class.  Something that will still keep your heart going a bit but won't put any additional stress on your body and muscles.


Take it from me, you need to take a break every once in a while.  If you don't your body won't have the strength to recover from injuries or fight off sickness... which could mean months out of the gym!  No bueno!
